Information/Procedure

DEADLINE:
Application must be submitted and additional documentation must be uploaded by midnight March 31 of the current year or by midnight of the following business day if the 31st falls on a weekend or holiday.

SELECTION:

Selections shall be made by the Cascade 4-H Foundation Scholarship Committee. Recipients shall be notified in May.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

50%            4-H Involvement

10%            Financial Information

20%            Community Involvement and School Activities

20%            Essay

PAYMENT:

Payment shall be sent to the Financial Aid Office by July 1st annually, jointly payable to the recipient and the post-secondary institution of choice, contingent that all requirements are met.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENT CHECKLIST

Applicant must be or have been a Cascade County 4-H member at the time of their high school graduation or equivalent.

Please submit the application packet in the order listed below.

Failure to include any of the following items below will result in application disqualification. 

  • APPLICATION: Complete, sign, and submit online application, limiting essay questions to 300 words.
  • TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Two letters of recommendation are to be submitted. One letter of recommendation should be written by a 4-H volunteer.
  • CURRENT TRANSCRIPT: A current transcript must be provided from the post-secondary institution (if applicable).
  • Fred Sanborn Memorial Scholarship, see special criteria below
    • Must upload a list of your 4-H Agriculture projects and activities
  • Douglas and Nancy Dear Memorial Scholarship, see special criteria below
    • Must upload a list of your 4-H Beef Breeding and/or Beef Market projects and activities

AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS

Complete one Cascade 4-H Foundation Scholarship online application to apply for multiple Cascade 4-H Foundation and Memorial Scholarships. It is not necessary to submit duplicates of any information (transcripts, letters of recommendation, or application). Though applicants may apply for all three scholarships, applicants can only receive one from the list in the same scholastic year. See each scholarship for specific application requirements.

  • Cascade 4-H Foundation Scholarship
    • Up to seven scholarships of $500.00 each shall be awarded with priority given to first-time applicants.
    • The scholarship money awarded to repeat recipients will be up to $1,000, allocating the proceeds equitably if fewer people apply than budget allows.
  • Fred Sanborn Memorial Scholarship
    • One scholarship of $1000.00 shall be awarded each year to a qualified applicant.
  • Douglas & Nancy Dear Memorial Scholarship
    • One scholarship of $500.00 shall be awarded each year 2014 through 2023 to a qualified applicant.

 CASCADE 4-H FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

PURPOSE of the Cascade 4-H Foundation scholarship
is to provide financial assistance to a Cascade County 4-H member.

APPLICATION PREREQUISITES

  • Candidates remain eligible to be scholarship recipients for six years after high school graduation.

DOUGLAS AND NANCY DEAR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

PURPOSE of the Douglas and Nancy Dear Memorial scholarship
is to provide financial assistance to a Cascade County 4-H member who has been active in
4-H Beef Breeding and/or 4-H Market Beef projects.

APPLICATION PREREQUISITES  

  • Applicant must have carried 4-H Beef Breeding and/or Market Beef projects for at least three years. Beef-related self-determined projects or projects developed after July 1, 1990 may or may not qualify. A list of your 4-H Beef Breeding and/or Beef Market projects and activities must be included with the application to be considered for this scholarship.
  • Applicant can receive the Douglas and Nancy Dear Memorial scholarship only once.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD DISBURSEMENTS

  • To receive funds, the scholarship recipient:
    • Must be enrolled for a second quarter or semester.
    • Submit copy of registration receipt for second term or semester.

FRED SANBORN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

PURPOSE of the Fred Sanborn Memorial scholarship
is to provide financial assistance to a Cascade County 4-H member who has been active in
4-H Agricultural projects.

APPLICATION PREREQUISITES

  • Applicant must have carried 4-H Agricultural projects for at least four years. These projects included, as of July 1, 1983, beef, dairy, sheep, swine, tractor, plants and soils, range management, and weeds. Self-determined projects or projects developed after July 1, 1983 may or may not qualify. A list of your 4-H Agriculture projects and activities must be included with the application to be considered for this scholarship.
  • Applicant can receive the scholarship only once.
  • Applicant must have a GPA of 2.5.
    • If the applicant does not have a formal high school diploma from an accredited institution, a copy of all criteria which determined their admission to an institution of higher learning may be submitted for consideration. (Ex. Hi-Set, SAT scores, ACT scores, Accuplacer test, etc.)
    • Members who are high school seniors must submit a transcript from the post-secondary institution upon completion of their first grading term.
